Important Note! Before getting started, make sure to go to Bricklink.com and set up an account!
STEP #1
Set up a "Wanted List"
The easiest way to buy all or some of the LEGO bricks needed for each design is by using a “Wanted List”. So, start the process by selecting “Wanted List” under the “Want” tab.
STEP #2
Create a New List and Name it
In the upper right corner of the page, select “Create New List”. Next, type in the name of the design, and hit the button that says “Create Wanted List”.
STEP #3
Select "Upload" under the Want Tab
After you have created the wanted list, you must select “Upload” under the Want tab to upload the XML Part list file.
Note! You cannot use the Upload function inside the wanted list.
STEP #4
Select the XML Format and correct List
Select the second tab on the Upload page to use the XML Format. Then select the wanted list you just created in the drop down menu.
STEP #5
Open the XML Part List, Select all and copy
Open the XML part list file that you downloaded from BadCatBricks. Select the ENTIRE LIST by either highlighting it or hitting “select all” (Ctrl A). Then copy the entire list.
STEP #6
Paste the list into the box and verify
After you have copied the ENTIRE LIST, paste it into the box on that page. Then click the button that says “Proceed to verify items”.
STEP #7
Scroll to the bottom and "Add to list"
You will then be brought to a page showing all the LEGO Bricks that you have just uploaded. Scroll to the bottom of this page and click “Add to Wanted List”. Do not worry about making changes on this page, you can modify your list in the next step if you choose to.
STEP #8
Make any wanted changes and "Buy All"
You have now created a wanted list with all the LEGO bricks needed for the design. To simply buy all the bricks for the design, just click the “Buy All” button.
If you only want to buy bricks that you don’t already have, you can go through the list and change the “have” numbers under the quantity column. When the “have” number equals the “want” number, the system will not purchase any of those bricks. For other examples of possible changes please watch the video at the top of this page.
STEP #9
The Buy Wanted Lists Page
This is the main page where you search Bricklink Stores for the bricks needed. The first step is to select the country or region where you want to buy from (typically where you live), and the currency.
The easiest way to search is to use the auto-select feature. Bricklink does a pretty good job locating all the bricks you need at a good price, but sometimes you can work for a better price using a few tricks and a max price. Watch the video on the top of this page for more details on this process.
STEP #10
Uncheck the box and hit "Start"
When the Auto-Select Stores box comes up, un-check the box on the left side. This will avoid stores showing up in the list that have minimum buy amounts. Then hit the “Start” button.
STEP #11
Review results and Create Carts
Review the results from the search. If you are happy with outcome, select the “Create Carts” button to view shipping totals and proceed to the checkout.
STEP #12
Review shipping cost
or Checkout!
After you have selected the “Create Carts” button, it will bring you to a page that allows you to checkout. However, if you prefer to know your shipping cost before checking out, you can select “View all Carts” under the Cart tab.
STEP #13 (Optional)
Review all Carts Page
This page will usually show the Grand Total including shipping. To proceed to checkout click on the “view cart” button.
If you do not like the results on this page, delete all of the carts and re-run the search from the wanted list page.
For a much more detailed explanation of the entire process, we recommend watching the video at the top of this page. It gives several examples of the entire process, as well as solutions to a few common issues that might arise with certain brick sellers.
